Adding more dairy to lunchboxes is easy… Giveaway

Disclaimer: This is a giveaway post for Dairy Australia, I received a Tupperware Fuel Pack for my time. All opinions are my own.

Research finds that only 1 out of 5 primary school kids consume enough dairy to meet their daily calcium needs, and adding milk, cheese or yogurt is an easy way to make sure kids get their three serves of dairy needed every day for healthy growth and development.

yogurt lunchboxs

It is really easy to include dairy in the lunch box, although I’ve found in the warmer weather it proved challenging. A good quality insulated lunchbox like the Tupperware Fuel Pack makes it much easier.

The Kids Need 3 Facebook page has some inspiring ideas, I keep some zucchini slice in the freezer, it defrosts well by lunch time and is super yummy with ricotta / feta added in.

Pieces of cheese and pots of yogurt are very simple lunch box additions and generally popular with the kiddies.

kids need dairy

Dairy is also a great tummy filler for those growing bodies that simply can not get enough fuel to keep them going.

My fav dairy snack for my kids is homemade choccie custards! Made low in sugar, high in milk… very yum and the kiddies cant get enough :) After that has to be cheese slices cut with cookie cutters into the shapes. The kids think its awesome and even have a go cutting their own cheese shapes.

Yummy ideas and a great giveaway! My favourite dairy lunchbox snack is chobani greek yoghurt with some choc chips sprinkled through.(doesn’t need too many though) Can even do 100′s and 1000′s for ‘fairy yoghurt’- it’s a big hit with the kids.

This year I have really tried to spruce up the lunch box and try to ensure it is healthy and fun. My children enjoy a pot of cottage cheese (with some pepper and chopped herbs from the garden) as a dip with some vegetable sticks or home made cheese sticks. Easy peasy and I know exactly what is in this dip.

My daughter and I make pizza scrolls, we make a basic dough, roll flat, spread with tomato sauce and sprinkle with lots of grated chesse. Then we roll it up, cut into 1cm pieces and cook in the oven. They are delicious hot or cold and never last more than a few days in our house. Great for lunch box’s!!!

Cutting her cheese into tiny star shapes makes it exciting and tasty to eat up into her tum :)

Individual bread-crust quiches.
In muffin tins place slices buttered bread, buttered side down. Cram the bread in and trim edges. Into these bread wells pour a milk, egg and cheese mix. Also add other ingredients of choice-eg; ham pieces, corn , peas, etc. Bake until egg mix is set and cheese has browned. Great for lunch boxes. As nice cold as they are hot!

We mix up some cream and ricotta cheese, then roll spoonfuls in chopped nuts and dried fruits. The kids help, choosing the coating mix, and making a mess!! They love to eat and share with their friends….

I pack berry and apple bircher muesli for my kid’s recess. I mix two tbs untoasted muesli, with 1/3 cup berry yoghurt, 1/4 apple, coarsely grated a handful of fresh or thawed frozen berries, and sunflower seeds. I combine muesli, berry yoghurt, apple, berries. Sprinkle with sunflower seeds. Served in fuel pack container.

As a mummy to five sumptuous snacks can be tricky,
Especially when each has different desires and one is extremely picky!
However this lunch box snack I’ve been using for years,
AND always brings happy and satisfied cheers!
“Seasonal Fruit Smoothies” is guaranteed to please,
Natural yogurt, fruit, teaspoon of honey and in a small airtight container to freeze,
Keeping lunches refreshingly cool,
AND a nutritional snack for school,
By lunchtime it has been thawed and ready to enjoy,
If there is dietary requirements you can use rice milk or soy!
The kids don’t even realise that they’re having two servings of fruit,
AND it is never ever returned in their lunchbox which is a toot!
You can make large batches which freeze for 3 months at a time,
Saving your sanity for ideas, time and of course a dime!
