I am sick to death of businesses not delivering even the most basic of customer service

by Marita on January 20, 2012

Honest to goodness how hard is it to receive a customer order, pack it in a box and delivery it.

Seemingly it is impossible.

I order early, I understand about things like delivery delays and sometimes products are out of stock, but you should be able to email customers and let them know these things or at the very least keep your online database up to date to reflect this information.

The Christmas present I ordered for Annie a month before Christmas did not arrive until 2 weeks after Christmas.

The Christmas present I ordered for my husband on 24th November is still not here and there will be more about that later.

Today I’m going to talk about Aussie Farmers Direct (AFD) – for those not familiar with them, AFD delivery produce from local farmers, including but not limited to, fruit, veg, meat and dairy.

So we are having all of the inlaws over on Sunday for Heidi’s birthday, I’m on the AFD website last week and I notice they have a Summer Meat Pack available which seems perfect for our family BBQ needs and it is on special, making the price comparable with what I’d be paying in the local grocery store.

Lets just note here, AFD is a bit more expensive than grocery store, but about comparable with Farmers Market prices.

Anyways Summer Meat Pack is added to my order, the party is on Sunday 22nd, so I chose to have it delivered on Friday 20th. Shortly afterwards I receive my order confirmation email:

My wallet winced but I figured it was a birthday party and local produce and this was all good.

This morning I get up all excited and a little smug – our delivery will have arrived overnight, I have supported local farmers and avoided trekking through grocery store in the hot weather with trays of meat. Until I start unpacking my AFD eskies only to find that there is NO SUMMER MEAT PACK!

I am not happy, I ring up 1300 MILK MAN to be told that the Summer Meat Packs were only available until Friday 13th and that is why I wont have received it – despite having been able to order it for delivery on the 20th AND having received confirmation that it would be delivered.

Poor form Aussie Farmers Direct, very poor form.

So I’m hoping that I get my money back on the Summer Meat Pack I never received and wont have to go 12 rounds with their accounts department to sort that out.

I’ve cancelled all future deliveries from Aussie Farmers Direct.

I’m going to visit Coles today and pick up some of their BBQ snags which are very tasty, although not flavoured with smug “I’m supporting local farmers”.

And later I’m going to research when all our local farmers markets are on and start scheduling those into our weekly routine.

** UPDATE 9.43am **

I’ve had a phone call from Aussie Farmers Direct apologising, which is appreciated.

** UPDATE Saturday 21st Jan **

I received a special delivery this morning – my Summer Meat Pack, along with a couple more phone calls from Aussie Farmers Direct Head Office and their local franchisee to apologise for the error.

We had similar issues with AFD and cancelled our service. They still ring me at least 4 times a year to get us to take it up again, but the service and quality was just not there for us in the end. I hope you get your money back :)

About the most smug flavour I get is from the local butcher, and the groceries I make the Coles delivery chick traipse upstairs.
Dare say AFD smug doesn’t taste all that much better!

That’s unfortunate. And good too that you let us know about it. I was planning to sign up & try their service as the they recently arrived here in my suburb in my aim to support framers & all. But I guess, I have to look for other options now.

I think we all need to allow businesses to make the occasional mistake; after all, they’re run by humans and humans screw up all the time! But when it becomes frequent or habitual, that’s unacceptable. Mistakes are there to learn from, so that you don’t repeat them, but many businesses seem to forget that bit!
